I came to homeopathy as many do, as a patient. A very kind and humble MD admitted to me that he didn't understand how it worked, but he knew that it did, since the homeopath he referred me to had cured cases he'd been unable to. That dear homeopath, who practiced in the suburbs of a major American city, had been trained in Europe and used LM potencies with me. I experienced profound emotional and physical changes under her care. The two years treatment were so effective, I remained in good health for the next 15 years!
A health crisis on the heels of a major life change brought me back to homeopathy, this time also as a student. Other obligations have prevented me entering formal training or practice. However, for ten years I had access to the libraries of former homeopathic colleges through an amazing free library system. For the past 14 years, I've put myself through a progressive reading and study program and I advocate for the use of homeopathy whenever I get the opportunity.
I now live in a remote area where homeopathy is largely unknown. The area is a "radio quiet zone," where many persons sensitive to man-made electromagnetic frequencies have moved. Their plight and the effects of technology on health are of special interest to me, and have shaped my understanding of the energetic nature of the human body.
I was delighted when Dr. Lucas invited me to this forum, as I am very grateful for further opportunities to learn.

I also came to homeopathy this way. Seems a long time ago now. Most homeopaths I know have a similar start. Maybe it is different in countries such as India where homeopathy sits so comfortably

Same was with me, but everyone has interesting story. In 1996 I attended one of lectures regarding some honey products. Actually, at that time I was trying to find a solution to the problems with asthma, from which my son suffered since his birth. Lecturer – the man who was just the seller of those products, told something about the problems of his daughter. She suffered of psoriasis and he said that she is on homeopathic treatment, somewhere in England. I suffered of psoriasis more than twenty years. At that time almost no one in Serbia had even heard about homeopathy. I tried to remember: whence looked familiar this word: Homeopathy. I came home and found the source and explanation, but nothing more than: alternative medicine. In 1998, again in pretty strange way, I met a man who dealt with homeopathic healing – on a distant and high mountain. Everything at that time was strange, magically and a bit frightening, but I decided to trust him. It was my first encounter with homeopathy. My first experience was aggravation I would not wish on anyone. I don't know how I continued to use it after that and how I dared to give it to children. In the period between 1998 and 2009, many things have happened in my life, and many of these changes were caused by the influence of homeopathic treatment: I wrote my first novel, although I thought that I would never dare to even try; my son's asthma attacks stopped ; I got rid of the panic; I stopped taking my children to the doctor for any acute condition; I started to treat them in acute and urgent conditions; psoriasis was gone from my skin after 30 years. I noticed one more change: I began to bother people around, constantly talking about homeopathy and wonders related to my experiences. I started to study this science very seriously, but only by myself, I was self-taught. I was looking for and finding tirelessly any literature (which at that time did not exist in Serbia), I learned the English language so I could read, I struggled to understand the basics and principles of homeopathy. I did not notice that I have already helped some other people and I was doing it pretty well. About all of that I decided to write the book, published in 2009: „Homeopathy – Family experiences“. I was satisfied and I thought: that is it – enough from me. Homeopathy is certainly one of my hobbies, my little passion, except writing. As for writing, I fulfilled my desire, and I will continue to study a homeopathy, a little bit – only for my soul and for the benefit of my family and relatives. At that time I made a big decision: I will never be a professional homeopath! "We plan, God laughs."

gordana Thank you for sharing your story. It's good to meet others who are self-taught. Although, are any of us really "self" taught? Since when we read the Organon and any of the older literature, we sit at the feet of the masters! Your book, what language was it published in? When you say, "We plan, God laughs," do you mean that you did become a professional, though you swore you would never do so?

becksnyc , I want to thank you for your story and sorry I didn't reply yesterday, when have read it. I just was too busy. I agree with you: the modern age, especially the 20th century, has led to many anomalies in common sense thinking. Before that, being self-taught, provided that a person really learns sincerely and devotedly, was highly valued. Today, the self-taught has a completely different status. But, as far as I'm concerned, who cares about status. I started formal education in 2010, when I realized that my serious decision ‘i will never be a homeopath’ was nonsense, just my fears. But I was not satisfied with the school program, and I was then almost 50 years old and had 12 years of studying homeopathy, behind me. I left school disappointed and thought: what now? At that moment I e-met Joy and started studying with her. It was a turning point in my homeopathic life. And behold, it lasts. We have been sharing for 10 years of cooperation and she is my biggest Teacher of homeopathy. A few months later I started translating the works of David Little and for a while I also collaborated with him, in the sense that he helped me in translating, by explanations. I learned a lot in that period and I still translate his lectures into Serbian. The only thing is that I don't have time to achieve everything I want. I also translated almost half of Joy's book "Rubrics of the mind for the 21th century". My book is still only in Serbian, although I have been trying to publish it in English for some time. The paradox is that two of my children are professional translators, but they have to work for corporations ( ), so they don't have time to translate my book. I recently started translating it myself, with the idea of giving it to someone to proofread, but the problem is that my writing style is a bit difficult. We'll see.
