In January 2013, the client leaved me a message on skype: “Help! I’m feeling very bad. I have diarrhea, fever…”
I turned on as soon as I saw the message:
What happens?
- Last night the husband cooked cabbage, strong and fat meal. I filled and ate two full plates, I don't even know why, and soon I was sick. It wasn't something terrible, like when you overeat. This morning around 4 am I was awakened by pain in my abdomen, I had strong cramps and diarrhea started, completely watery. This morning I decided to go to work, I was sick there, I was vomiting – by deliberately pushing the finger into throat, thinking that it would be easier for me. I came home earlier. In the meantime, I got a temperature of 37.5 C. I'm very cold, my legs are icy even though I'm covered, I can't warm up.
How is your stomach now?
- Twice I had an urge for stool, but have nothing more to throw out. I have cramps and pain. I drink little sips of tea so I don't vomit.
She lives abroad, in a small town, where, admittedly, every pharmacy has homeopathic remedies, but quite a small selection of remedies and potencies. Besides, it was Sunday. I did the repertorization quickly, not dealing much with her mental state. I included only proven physical symptoms and got:
I opted for Podophyllum. Someone went to the pharmacy, they had only 5C. I prescribed 3 doses, each on 10 minutes. 15 minutes after the third dose, she reported a small improvement, but I was not convinced because she had a similar short-term improvement that morning. Another dose was repeated. Half an hour later she was not better.
Also considered were:
- Ars: she is thirsty but drinks small sips so as not to vomit, possible fear of vomiting (I was not sure); coldness during diarrhea, cold extremities;
- Nux-v, although it did not appear at the top of the repping: overeating; cold and chilliness as well; she went to work even though she felt bad (although it could be a behavior imposed by the situation on her work);
- Phos: symptoms common to all major remedies in such stomach problems; in addition, I was not sure whether the need for small sips might be caused by nausea typical of Phos – as soon as the contents of the stomach warms up, nausea and vomiting occurs;
- Verat: a great remedy for diarrhea, especially with vomiting and general weakness.
Through all these remedies runs: restlessness, exhaustion, overeating, heavy/rich food, cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and in the three on the top of the shortlist we also have that cabbage causes problems.
Since she was not feeling better, and the time of closing the pharmacies was approaching, I was under stress due to the desire to help her and responsibility. I could have sent them to the pharmacy and told them to buy ten more remedies, but I didn't want to work like that, to try them one by one. I got a little annoyed and let my tension guide me – to cut the torment of both her and myself, I thought.
When I saw her on the screen again, she was sitting on the bed and looked very exhausted. Her face turned gray. Extreme exhaustion. I asked her what she was doing before she turned on skype again, if she was lying down and how she was feeling in general.
- I was lying. I'm very weak and just roll around on the bed to find a position in which I will feel better, but I cannot find it.
What is the hardest thing for you in your current condition?
- The hardest thing for me is that I don't know how I will organize myself to go to work tomorrow. And that 'unbearable'!
What unbearable?
- I feel nervous and scared. I keep moving and turning, but I can't calm it down.
Oh, here we are, I thought.
But, now there were:
- anxiety business about = Nux-v
- unbearable restlessness with fear = Ars.
In the condition I could see, ‘unbearable’ was predominant, especially because of ‘tossing about with anguish’ and cannot find place to rest.
I added those symptoms in the repp:
An hour later, the condition was generally much better, there was no pain or diarrhea; severe headache: tightness in the forehead and temples (old symptom). At that moment, the headache and the state of general weakness were her biggest problems. Repeated Ars 15C, 1 dose.

Arsenicum 15C in water solution was given, 3 x 10 minutes, 1 dose = 1 teaspoon.
An hour later, the condition was generally much better, there was no pain or diarrhea; severe headache: tightness in the forehead and temples (old symptom). At that moment, the headache and the state of general weakness were her biggest problems. Repeated Ars 15C, 1 dose.
Two hours later, the condition was completely stable, without any problems.
