Can someone explain why alcohol is used in the preparation of homeopathic remedies? Does it serve as a preservative during potentization? If so, why would it be needed if the source material is non-living? (minerals, for example) Doesn't the use of alcohol change the energetic picture of the material being potentized? Thanks!
PS, Joy, I wasn't sure where to file this. Maybe we need a topic "Homeopathic Pharmacopeia" or something along those lines?

It is regarded as the ‘cleanest’ within preparation
I will create a new board if you wish

Admin - Joy Lucas , are we going to continue the discussion on this topic here or are you going to move it to a new board? I would share one link regarding the issue.

I wanted to share information from David Little about how Hahnemann made the solutions, and how David does it. All these lectures are very useful (Joy, you have already shared), and in this part I would like to emphasize the part under the title: Preparing and Administering the Medicinal Solution. Here is one paragraph: "A sufficient amount of brandy or pure alcohol, as a preservative, should be included in the solution. If the solution is to be used over a long period of time mix 30% to 50% brandy with the water used in the solution. A lesser amount of ever-clear would do the job." www.simillimum.com/education/little-library/the-works-of-great-homoeopaths/ham/article02.php

That's an interesting study. If cytotoxicity is a concern, then perhaps the poison is the cure in this case, too. I would be more concerned that alcohol's symptoms would be added to the substance proved. How could it not have an influence?

I would be more concerned that alcohol's symptoms would be added to the substance proved. How could it not have an influence? It could be that anything and everything could have an influence that cannot be controlled - water, air, pestle and mortar, the person pounding or succussing etc etc, which is why a good pharmacy or even home made rx makers will adhere to a standard that is then quantifiable. And with that standard it gives the potentised substance the foundation to be able to elicit sx during a proving without complications so that sx similarity can be depended on.
